When ‘WRAS Approved’ is not enough

You will have seen elsewhere on this site that we are proud of the fact that Wefatherm is the only PPR system with WRAS Product Approval.

WRAS Product ApprovalThe WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) has a useful purpose “to contribute to the protection of public health by preventing contamination of public water supplies and encouraging the efficient use of water by promoting and facilitating compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Byelaws”.

But the term ‘WRAS approved’ is bandied around too readily by manufacturers and their marketing team without much effort being spent explaining the crucial distinction between WRAS Material Approval and WRAS Product Approval.

Be under no illusion, you need to be sure the water supply pipes and fittings you are using have WRAS Product Approval.

A Material Difference - article about WRAS Product ApprovalIf you’re not sure why, read this article, from the online version of H&V News (hvnplus.co.uk), by Arthur Reader of Charles Technical Services.

In the article Arthur explains the difference between Material Approval and Product Approval and gives insight how installers can get caught out by manufacturer claims.

To illustrate the point he picks up on the fact that only one of the PPR systems on the market in the UK has WRAS Product Approval. And we picked up straight away that he means Wefatherm!

We know this because we’ve checked all competitors on the WRAS products directory . You can see the Wefatherm PPR WRAS Product Approval certificate here.
